The concept of liposuction is actually surprisingly simple. It is a surgical technique that improves the body’s contour by removing excess fat between the skin and the muscle.
A very safe and successful tumescent technique is used for the liposuction procedure. A local anaesthetic is administered in the target area. With our equipment, the unwanted fat cells between the skin and the muscle are removed. A small incision is made and a suction pipe is pushed to the location of excess body fat.
Liposuction is not a substitute for a healthy diet, nor is it useful for generalised weight reduction. Although this seems obvious, we mention this because patients may expect that localised fat removal will result in a dramatic weight loss. This is not possible.
Fat distribution in certain areas is determined by heredity and diet. Heredity dictates the location and number of individual fat cells and these are fixed and unchanging after puberty.
The volume removed is measured to assure the safety of the patient. There are however limits and boundaries to the amount of fat that can be removed and areas that can be targeted in a given procedure. This will be carefully explained and judged by Dr A Moolman.
We can only work with what we are presented with, but the results are permanent because the fat cells are literally amputated in the targeted areas.
We will give a personalized quotation to each and every patient according to their needs.
The anaethetist in the procedure room is there to monitor the conscious sedation of the patient at all times.
frequently asked questions
Which areas can be done?
Liposuction surgery can be performed on anything between the chin and the ankles.
How much does a liposuction procedure cost?
The cost will be determined by your specific area/s. A personalized quotation will be given to you by our medical doctor. Not more than 30% of the body surface can safely be attended to in one procedure.
Will the consultation cost me anything?
Yes it will. We do charge a fee because a full medical history, vital signs and examination of problem areas will be done. The procedure, prescription, pre- and post-operative care will be explained to you in full.
Will the liposuction procedure be painful?
It is more uncomfortable than painful. A stiffness is experienced similar to muscle stiffness felt after a hard workout at the gym. Pain medication will be prescribed and pain management will be explained to every individual.
